Well, we’ve just about come back down to earth in our class following our debut at the Royal Exchange! Lots of the children have been asking what next for our learning?

The answer is that we will be beginning a project focused on Geography. Last half term we went on a taster session to John Rylands library where we did a workshop on Mapping Manchester.

This is the basis for our new topic! We will be looking in detail at the reasons why Manchester boomed during the Industrial Revolution and centering our knowledge on developing map work and surveys around population growth.

The lady who built John Rylands Library was called Enriquetta Rylands and she decided to fund the library to help the people of Manchester, particularly the poor. Enriquetta was born and raised in Cuba, and had a link to Chorlton which I wonder if anyone knows?

….never have I felt so proud of my lovely class than this afternoon at the Royal Exchange. Thank you C4, you did yourselves proud and were a credit to the school! I f you couldn’t make it, we have a very rough video of the dress rehearsal for you all to see. Enjoy! Imagine it x400 more intense and dramatic, and you may just capture the essence of what was done today.

We are getting really excited in class about our performance…..our scene will focus on Lady Macbeth so look forward to a few ‘ out, out damn spot!’ exclamations coming your way! As we practice and perform, we will be keeping a performance diary to help record our feelings, some of which we’ll be putting onto the blog so you can read how we are getting on. Just to let you know, we’ve been asked to perform in a particular colour, so please could you look through your wardrobes for dark red and black clothing (without logos)…thank you!

For the more adventurous of you out there, I’ve posted a link to a video clip that shows the crucial scene we will explore. It’s completely in Shakesperian language, but it might be worth watching just to try and capture the mood of the piece….also, you may like to consider how the lighting, acting, expressions, costumes, props and music help to build a particular atmosphere….

Prepare to be terrified! We worked in small groups to put together our dance today, trying to think about how our bodies would move and travel to act like a witch! Then, we refined our ideas by thinking about how we could make our performances more dramatic…children, can you tell the world what you did to improve your work?

The minute we arrived at Bramall Hall we had to go into role as a Tudor. It was really cool! Bess and maggie the servants greeted us and then led us through the day. I could tell you so much more about it, but I’m hoping the children will post their own comments on what fun it was……in the meantime, have a look at our photos of us dressed as Tudor masters and mistresses.

The following slide show is a record of the amazing homework C4 did over the Christmas holidays, to introduce them to their project on the Tudors. Such creativity! It was a happy last session we had on Wednesday last week reviewing what we had all done. Homework is an excellent way of reinforcing and establishing knowledge in a subject, so a big thank you to all the parents and carers who also helped with the individual projects….hope you enjoyed it too!
